At Glorious, we’re all about elevating women’s sport. We’re also all about elevating our Friday night drinks! With long summer days in full force, who doesn’t love a hazy summer evening, kicking back with a cocktail or two in hand, surrounded by friends? We take our cocktail making seriously here at Glorious HQ, so we were thrilled when we stumbled upon Aluna Coconut during our recent trip to Cornwall to meet the inspiring Cornish water-women (check out their amazing story here.)
As die-hard rum enthusiasts, we’re all about making conscious choices when it comes to our spirits. We tend to steer clear of synthetic and overly sugary alcohols, just like the three friends behind female-led brand Aluna Coconut. They couldn’t find a coconut rum with great natural coconut flavour that didn’t have all the sugar associated with synthetic, sticky sweet versions. That’s why they set out on a mission to create a coconut rum with authentic natural flavour, without all the excessive sugar usually found in artificial alternatives.
Their journey led them to craft an award-winning full-strength rum blend, carefully sourced from Guatemala and the Caribbean. But here’s the real genius part: they blended it with sustainably sourced coconut water to enhance that irresistible coconut essence and create a smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. The result? A perfect balance of flavours without overwhelming sweetness. Plus Aluna Coconut won the coveted Best Flavoured Rum award at the World Rum Awards in its very first year… impressive debut!
We love the brand’s purpose – Aluna is a member of 1% For The Planet, a movement created by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard where businesses commit to donate a minimum of 1% of their total sales (not just profits) each year to environmental non-profits. Aluna also partners with The Marine Diaries to help them in their work giving the ocean a voice.
So how can you enjoy Aluna Coconut? We’re big fans of a Coconut Daiquiri by shaking it with lime juice and a touch of simple syrup or agave nectar. We’ve also been known to venture into Coconut Paloma territory, mixing it with pink grapefruit soda. Looking to add a unique twist to your cocktail repertoire? Replace vodka with Aluna in a Toasted Coconut Espresso Martini. And if you’re a purist, we get it, just sip it neat or mix it with your favourite cola or mixer. Oh, and believe us when we say, it’s a total game-changer in a post-swim hot chocolate!
