Book A Horsey Weekender

Inspired by our recent story featuring Jodie Hall McAteer, we’ve gone horse-mad this week at Glorious!

Whether you’re looking for a gift for a horsey pal or a treat for yourself, Glorious has scoured the internet to find you the best horse experiences available.

1. Fancy Having A Sleepover With A Miniature Horse Named Basil?! Of Course You Do!

Located in Thurgarton, Nottinghamshire, you can now enjoy a sleepover in an Airbnb with a 10-year-old miniature Shetland stallion named Basil. Basil lives on the grounds of a 17th century manor, surrounded by a picturesque 60-acre estate. There is a rentable apartment directly attached to Basil’s stable with an adjoining doorway, which means you can spend your evening watching Netflix and chilling out next to Basil. Sometimes the estates’ lambs visit the stable and a herd of Highland cows and Hebridean sheep live in the paddock next door! Sounds dreamy! Book your sleepover here from £175

2. Grab a friend and enjoy a day exploring the Home of Horseracing with this Ultimate Horse Racing Lover’s Experience for Two at Newmarket. Go behind the scenes for a morning on the world famous Gallops, a guided tour of The National Stud and visit a Working Racehorse trainer’s stables. This fantastic day offers a deep dive into the world of racing and is bound to be memorable. Book for £198 for two.

3. Have You Got A Pony-Mad Child In Your Life?

Head to the Chiltern Hills and introduce your child to the world of ponies. They will learn how to groom and tack up a pony and then receive a riding lesson with their trusty steed. The session is set in a relaxed, friendly environment and provides children with a great introduction to working with ponies. Located in Warden Hills, Bedfordshire, the centre also offers novice adults the same experience. Book your 1½ hour session here for £40 (kids) £65 (adults)

4. Want To Keep Your Feet Firmly On The Ground?

The London International Horse Show is back this year, bigger and better than ever at ExCel London. The show begins on Thursday 15th December until Monday 19th December and will feature three FEI World Cup Qualifiers in dressage, showjumping and driving. Alongside the FEI World Cup action, each daily performance will include the usual mix of equestrian displays, The Kennel Club Dog Agility, The Shetland Pony Grand National and a spectacular Christmas Finale! Plus it’s the perfect place to pick up some last minute Christmas presents for your four-legged friends. Book your tickets now from £36

5. Wrap Up Warm And Head To St. Moritz

Every year, the last weekend in January in St. Moritz turns into the world capital of polo: Since 1985, when snow polo had its world premiere here, teams from around the world compete for the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz on the town’s frozen lake. The Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz is the world’s only high-goal tournament on snow. The three days of the tournament (27th January until 29th January 2023) stand for high-class polo played against the magnificent backdrop of the snow-capped mountains of the Engadin Valley and social events both on the lake and in St. Moritz’s first-class hotels. For more information and to book your tickets click here (from 90€)

6. Go Jousting In Scotland! Yes, You Read That Correctly!

Join this young professional team for a workshop in how to joust like a knight from days of yore. Into The Blue are offering two-hour, one-to-one jousting lessons for one or two people at this riding centre near Pitlochry, Perthshire. Hark back to medieval times in the Scottish Highlands, as you take on the role of brave knight, fearlessly tackling targets with your lance.
You’ll have to trust your stead implicitly, but have no fear, these horses are well-versed and well-trained in the art of jousting. They love putting on a good show (and some might say they are the true stars of a jousting tournament!), so you’ll be in good hands, or should we say stirrups, with your horse host. £120 for one, £140 for two.

Happy Horsin’!
